Renewables.org was created to adapt the popular 'Kiva model' of Global South crowdfunding to fight for a new cause — climate. Cofounder and chair Premal Shah was one of the creators of Kiva.org.

Premal saw the impact Global South finance could create — and its struggle to raise financing at scale. He realized parts of the Kiva model could meaningfully accelerate renewables deployment.

Cofounders Lassor Feasley (CEO) and  Scott Schwartz (CTO) built Renewables.org, which launched in December of 2023.
